What is online learning and how does it work?
In McKinney ISD, online instruction for grades 2 through 12 will be primarily conducted through Canvas. Each week teachers will post an instructional plan along with all the resources and assignments for the week.
What can parents and students expect from teachers?
Parents and students can expect for weekly assignments to be posted on Canvas at the start of each week along with other important information. Each teacher should have posted WebEx tutoring hours and student instructions on how to get in touch. Parents and students can also expect that teachers respond by phone call or email within 24 hours of receiving parent/student communication.
What are the expectations of students?
With online learning, students are expected to log in to Canvas each week to work on assignments for each of their courses. This may include watching instructional videos, participating in online class discussions, submitting assignments, etc.
Where can parents and students find course work?
Parents and students should be able to access all of their class work through Canvas. Sign in and go to the dashboard to see all of the classes. In each class, teachers will have assignments for the week posted.
How should students communicate with teachers if they need help?
If students need a teacher's help they should use the Canvas Inbox to message their teacher. Some teachers may also have set up other ways to communicate with students that enable teachers to respond more quickly. If students do not get a response from a teacher within 24 hours their message may have been missed and they should email their teacher.
