Message from Principal Jackson
It is so nice to finally be able to walk outside without shivering. I hope the temperature stays this way for at least a couple of days.
Thank you to all the families who have reached out regarding the passing of Mr. Leonard Evans, Jr. Our community is truly a better place because of his leadership and vision and kind-hearted spirit. We are truly honored to carry on his name and legacy.
I would also like to give a special thanks to all of our School Board Members who work diligently to provide our district with a strong direction and powerful leadership while always striving to do what is best for all of our students across MISD.
Dress code alert: We are seeing lots of violations for dress code. Please help us with this effort. If your child is wearing leggings, the shirt must be at finger-tip length. If students have holes in their jeans above the knee, they need to wear tights under the jeans. These are the two main issues we are seeing. We will have a dress code check during 2nd period announcements on random days. Students will be asked to go to the office to change. Thanks for your help with this.
We are also seeing lots of new shiny SmartWatches. These are considered to be an extension of a cell phone and we have a "no cell phone out in class" policy. Therefore, teachers have the right to ask students to take their watches off during tests/quizzes and if they become a distraction for students. Again, thanks for your help with this.
The 2018 year is off to a great start. Can't wait to see the amazing things our students will accomplish this semester.

Go Red Day
On Friday, February 2nd, National GO RED DAY, we are asking everyone in our district to GO RED to support the mission of the American Heart Association - building healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Throughout this school year, you will receive monthly emails on a variety of health topics.
We would like to remind all parents of the importance of keeping sick children home. When a child comes to school ill, he/she can spread illness by coughing, touching his/her nose/mouth and then touching objects that other students come in contact with.
Remember that fever is not the only sign of true illness and that fever is usually a late sign of an illness, or an illness that is progressing.
If your child is out sick remember to always send in a note from the Dr or a parent note.
MISD Health policies are in place to help insure a healthy school where students can learn and grow. Please take a moment to review the exclusions that are listed below.
Guidelines for Returning to School after an Illness
In order to minimize the number of children that are ill, we ask you to please consider the following guidelines when making your decision to let your child attend school or return to school after an illness. A student with any of the following symptoms must be excluded from school until such time as the student is free from symptoms.
Hand washing is one of the easiest and best ways to prevent the spread of disease. Direct contamination of your mucus membranes (eyes, nose and/or mouth) is how many infectious diseases enter your body. So let's work together to decrease the risk of contracting and spreading illnesses by following these three simple rules:
Do you have gently used shoes your kids have outgrown or shoes you don't wear anymore? Please donate them to Evans PTO for a shoe recycling fundraiser in the month of January. All funds received will go directly to PTO teacher grants. Please deposit shoes in bucket in front office or 6th grade counselor's office. Please see the following list for acceptable and unacceptable types of shoes.
