Evans Middle School Spelling Bee Buzzzzz
We are very excited to announce that Evans Middle School will again be participating in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. One smart speller will represent Evans at the County level.
We will be sending home the word list with all of our students, so students will have time to study this list well in advance of the written spelling test.
* In November (date TBD) each student will take a written spelling test consisting of 20 words from the combined grade 6-8 list. The top 10% of students will advance to the next round. If a student missed the test they will have one week to make it up.
* In December (date TBD) afterschool workshops will be held for students who qualified for the Spelling Bee. The workshops will teach the students what to expect and will train them on how to participate in a spelling bee. We will meet from 3:45 to 5:00 (location TBD). Students will be notified beforehand if they have qualified.
* If necessary, we will hold a preliminary verbal assessment to reduce the number of qualifiers to our top 30-35 students. We will begin promptly at 4pm. Parents are welcome.
* In January (date TBD) we will hold our final event. Qualifying students will need to arrive in the Cafeteria by 6pm. We will begin the Bee at 6:30 and will go until we have one winner.
We are so thrilled to host Evans Second Spelling Bee!
